Members in grades 4-12 are invited to show Market Turkeys at Westfair this year. Members may show one tom and/or one hen. The cost of the turkeys is $7.00/bird. The Iowa State University Extension Master Gardeners of West Pottawattamie County will hold the event at the Council Bluffs Senior Center, Saturday, March 29, 2014 from 8:00am to 4:00pm. Cost is $30 if registered by March 21st or $40.00 if coming the day of the event and both include lunch and refreshments.
Iowa State University is anticipating an increase in demand for its food safety training course as new state regulations take effect in Iowa this year. New Iowa Department of Inspection and Appeals guidelines went into effect Jan. 1 requiring food establishments to designate a Certified Food Protection Manager to oversee the safe handling, preparation and service of food items.
What is Powerful Tools for Caregivers?
Caregiving is rewarding, but, let’s face it— caregiving also can be stressful—physically, emotionally, and financially. Powerful Tools for Caregivers is a class designed to provide you, the family caregiver, with the skills you need to take care of yourself. Six two-and-a-half hour class sessions held once a week are led by certified, experienced class leaders. Powerful Tools for Caregivers allows you time to acquire some tools to help you become more comfortable with your role as a caregiver.
Juntos: Together for a Better Education, is a 6-week series of workshops designed for families with 8th, 9th, or 10th grade students. The goal is to have family work together to help youth succeed in school, and to discover paths to higher education. The program will be held on Thursdays starting March 6 through April 10, 2014 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Broadway United methodist Church, 11 South 1st Street, Council Bluffs.
