Swine Weigh In April 6

The optional swine weigh in for those wanting to be eligible for the rate of gain contest will be Saturday, April 6th at Westfair.  Members may come any time between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Those who come will have their hogs weighed, tagged and ID'ed in 4H Online.  They will also be eligible for the rate of gain contest at the 2013 Westfair.  Members are responsible for verifying their hogs in 4H Online before May 15.

There is no cost to weigh in your hogs for the 2013 Westfair rate of gain contest.  Hogs over 70# will not be accepted for the rate of gain contest.

**NEW IOWA STATE FAIR REQUIREMENTS FOR 2013:  For members wanting to show swine at the Iowa State Fair, there have been major changes.  There is no derby show at the Iowa State Fair and therefore, there will not be regional weigh ins in late April.  Instead, if you would like to show swine at the Iowa State Fair (Market or Breeding), the must have a DNA punch tag.  The cost per tag is $8.00.  Families are able to tag their own hogs and should pick up/pay for tags at the Extension Office.  The DNA punch tags require special taggers (we have two at the office) and the taggers must be returned within 5 days of checking them out.  Members must pay for tags when they are picked up from the office.  The DNA punch tags are only a nomination - actual Iowa State Fair entries are due July 1.  Hogs must be tagged and envelopes returned to the office by May 1.  Members who would like to show swine at the Iowa State Fair should visit the website at http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/projects/swine for complete information.

The DNA punch tags are only for IOWA STATE FAIR - not Westfair.

Members with questions about the swine weigh in can call the office at 712-366-7070.
