Sheep Weigh In

Members wanting to show market lambs at the 2013 Westfair, will need to attend the sheep weigh in on Saturday, April 27th from 8-10 a.m.  Members should bring their lambs to the scale at Westfair anytime between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. on the 27th.  Lambs will be weighed, tagged and ID'ed in 4H Online.

If a member would like to nominate their market lamb for the Ak-Sar-Ben Livestock Expo (end of September), we will do a DNA hair pull that morning.  The cost to nominate a lamb for Ak-Sar-Ben is $5.00/animal.  Members should pay for their Ak-Sar-Ben nominiation at the weigh in and checks should be made payable to ISU Extension.  This is only a nomination for the market lamb show at Ak-Sar-Ben (actual entries are due in August).  Members and a parent/guardian must be present to sign the DNA envelopes for Ak-Sar-Ben.  If you won't be present to sign the Ak-Sar-Ben DNA envelope, then check with the Extension Office for a waiver.  This is only for Ak-Sar-Ben - not Westfair.

Members wanting to nominate lambs for the Iowa State Fair will need to attend another county weigh in that will be doing the retinal imaging.  Retinal imaging will not be offered in West Pottawattamie.  Contact the Extension Office if you would like to nominate a market lamb for the Iowa State Fair.

Please call the office at 712-366-7070 or email us at jenvin@iastate.edu for more information about sheep weigh in.
