Saturated Fat, dietary cholesterol and trans fats can all raise LDL("bad") cholesterol values to increase your risk for Heart Disease.

As January 1, 2006 the FDA has added the requirement for trans fats be shown on the Nutrition Facts panel of food labels.  Trans fats are created when hydrogen is added to liquid oils to make them into more solid forms, like margarine and shortening.  You will find trans fats not only in some margarine and shortening products, but in foods like breaks, crackers, cookies and snack foods made with or fried in these products.  Addtional information about fats isavailable in the Iowa State University Publication:  Know your fats PM 1979a
