Two locations are scheduled for Family Child Care providers interested in learning how to assess the quality of their child care.  The series will be held in Atlantic on April 2, 16, 23 and 30 and in Red Oak on May 11, 18 and June 1 and 8.  In this four session series providers will have a chance to talk and share with other family child care providers, will begin a self-assessment of their care, with participate in an observation of a local family child care home and will gain practice in using the new Family Child Care Quality Rating Scale (FCCERS).

Even if you took the FDCRS series several years ago it is recommended that you take this series, where you will receive the new FCCERS book free of charge.  The Environment Rating Scale book has changed and the Quality Rating Scale (QRS) uses this revised scale, the FCCERS, for their state observations. Completion of the course provides 8 hours of Iowa Department of Human Services childcare licensing credit, and meets Iowa QRS requirements for 1 point. Additional QRS points can be earned by completing paperwork that is started in class.

Classes will be run from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm according to Instructors Pat Anderson and Mary Hughes, ISU Extension Families Field Specialists.  The series is free and each participant will receive a copy of the FCCERS, which offers step-by-step guidance for making helpful changes that can make a real difference in the work providers do with young children and the children’s success in the early years of school.

Interested providers should contact Toni Stork at 800-945-9778 to register and for workshop locations.
