Fall is the season for health insurance plan enrollment. Health insurance helps individuals and families get access to care leading to better health and reduces the risk of high health care costs.
Smart Choice Health Insurance Basics will be held on Tuesday, December 15 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the ISU Extension and Outreach office of West Pottawattamie County, 1705 McPherson Ave., in Council Bluffs. The workshop is free; registration is requested. Call 712-366-7070.

If you have a question on buying, storing, preparing, or cooking your turkey this Thanksgiving, the USDA’s Meat and Poultry hotline can help you. The hotline, which recently celebrated its 30th year, is available to answer any question on food safety.  Call 888-674-6854

Master Gardeners of West Pottawattamie County offer $50.00 grants to classroom teachers to help provide horticulture education to Pottawattamie County students.  The grant will be used to purchase materials and related supplies for your classroom’s horticulture plans.

Iowans have gotten their lawn and garden questions answered by Iowa State University horticulturists for three decades by calling Hortline at 515-294-3108, an Iowa State University Extension and Outreach hotline. With the expansion of the Internet, an email option was added in 1997 with inquiries directed to hortline@iastate.edu. Now the Iowa State horticulturists who support Hortline have assembled frequently asked questions on a Yard and Garden FAQs website at http://expert.hort.iastate.edu/.
