Meeting MInutes - September 2014
The SonRays held their regular meeting on Monday, September 15, 2014 from 2:30-4:00 pm at the Webster County Extension Office.
Eight members were present (Anna L., Anna H., Abi C., Jonathon C., Ruth C., Austin H., Luke L., and Charles C.), two leaders (Jan L. and Kari H.) and five guests (Israel and Elaine C, Alan H., and potential 4-H'er Colton and his mom, Cheri) for a total of 15 present. Linda Cline stopped in and welcomed everyone and helped with a 'Getting to Know You" game following the meeting. Recreation Leader Anna L. played two name games before the Club meeting started. Club President Austin H. called the meeting to order. Pledges to the US and 4-H Flag were said. Secretary's report given by Club Secretary Charles C from the June 16th Club Meeting-No meeting in July due to the County Fair and we did not have a meeting in August. Minutes were read and approved with a motion by Anna L. and second by Anna H. Treasurer's Report given by Club Treasurer Luke L. Bank Balance of $410.80. We have a check of $252.64 from the Webster County Agricultural Assn. to deposit for 2014 Fair Club Premiums. A motion was made by Anna L. and seconded by Ruth C. to have the Treasurer write out the premium checks to the members that will be distributed at an upcoming club meeting. Old business: Food stand-Anna L.; Webster County Fair-Anna H., Anna L., Jonathan C., Luke L.; Rifle Discipline-Austin H.; AwardRobe Event-Luke L. New business: Record Books are due NOW! If going for a County Award need before Sept. 24th at the Extension Office. Memberships open to re-enroll online now-Pizza Party prize for clubs who enroll early! Welcome to Israel C. who became a 4-H'er today! Information regarding upcoming Poultry Club tour opportunity attached after meeting minutes. Next meeting will be on Monday, October 20, 2014 from 2:30-4:00 pm. More information to follow. We will have our annual potluck on Monday, November 10th (please note this is one week earlier) at 6:30pm with the awards/installation of the new club officers for 2014/2015. Theme: Fiesta. More information to follow. Meeting was adjourned with a motion from Anna L. and second by Ruth C. Treats today: Lewandowski-beverage; Hermanson & Chalstrom-cookies and granola bars. Following adjournment: Presentation by Anna L. on her poultry-Bantam chicken and call duck. Election of officers: President: Luke L, Vice President: Austin H., Secretary: Ruth C., Treasurer: Anna H., Recreation Leaders: Anna L. and Abby C., Photographers: Charles C., Anna H., and Anna L. Thank you to the current 2013/2014 Club officers and congratulations to the newly elected 2014/2015 Club officers who will start their term after the November officer installation ceremony.
Meeting Minutes - June 16, 2014
The SonRays 4-H Club met at the Library from 10-11:30 on Monday, June 16, 2014. Roll call was answered by 10 members, with 2 leaders and 1 parent present. Absent: Joseph L and Chalstrom's. Pledge to American Flag led by: Abi H. and Gabriel F. Pledge to 4-H Flag led by Anna F., Anna H., and Anna L. Secretary report read by Club Secretary Charles C. Move to approve minutes as read by Anna H. and seconded by Anna L. Treasurer report read by Club Treasurer Luke L. Balance on hand is: $200.80. Old Business: Anna L told club members about the rabbit/poultry check in/registrations held last Saturday. Jacob L. shared about his great experiences on the CWF trip. New Business: Discuss club fair booth ideas and vote. Fair Theme: "Ticket to Success". Ideas presented: airplane/airport, train station, Willy Wonka, and Charlotte's Web. Charlotte's Web won the vote. We will meet at Jan Lewandowski's home on Friday, June 27th from 10-11:30 am to put together the fair booth items and to see what is yet needed. Club meeting was adjourned by 11:30 am. There will be no club meeting in July due to the Webster County Fair.
Meeting Minutes - Monday May 19, 2014
The SonRays 4-H Club held their regular monthly meeting on Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Webster County Extension Office. The meeting was to be an outdoor picnic activity; but rainy. Meeting called to order by President Austin Hermanson. Attendance answered with "What do you plan to take to the Webster County Fair?' by 10 members, with Charles arriving later for a total of 11 present plus the two leaders and family members. The Chalstrom's were absent. A club photo was taken and submitted electronically to Mrs. Linda Cline. Pledge to the American Flag led by Anna Lewandowski and Joseph Larsen. Pledge to the 4-H Flag led by Anna Hermanson and Abigail Hermanson. Treasurer report given by Club Treasurer Luke Lewandowski: Current balance is $235.80, with no new bills to pay. Club secretary Charles Chichester arrived later, so the minutes from last month's meeting were read by Club Vice President Jacob Lewandowski. A motion was made by Joseph Larsen to approve the minutes as read and seconded by Anna Hermanson. In old business, several 4-H'ers had not yet given a presentation to the Club. The following members did so today, and so now all members have given a presentation at a club meeting. Anna Fisher: "Shake and Make Ice Cream"; Gabriel Fisher: "Ocean in a Bottle"; Brandon Fisher: "Babysitting"; Jacob Lewandowski: "Consequences of a traffic violation"; and Luke Lewandowski: "Pink Fairy Armadillos". Fair Books/Packets were then distributed and reviewed. The SonRays club members that will be participating in the Webster County Fair Queen/King Contest are: Abigail Hermanson and Jacob Lewandowski. The fair theme "Ticket to Success" was discussed. Fair booth ideas and how to put it together at the booth will be discussed and voted upon at the next meeting which will be held on Monday, June 16, 2014 at the Extension Office from 2:30-4:00 pm. Treat: Lewandowski/Beverage: Lewandowski. This will be our last meeting before the fair. 4-H'ers who will be doing working exhibits, educational presentations or Share the Fun may be able to practice in front of others that day. If wanting to do so, please let leasders know ahead of time. Fair entries are due to the Extension Office by June 10th, 2014 at 5:00 pm-NO EXCEPTIONS! Fair booth set up on Monday, July 7, 2014. Static Exhibit Judging Day on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at the Fairgrounds. Webster County Fair July 9-13, 2014. Remember to refer to the Fair Book Pages 61-67 for requirements for auditorium exhibits (Page 62, #14) and Pages 62-67 (Design-Elements and Principles). Meeting was adjourned at 4:15 pm with a motion by Anna Lewandowski and seconded by Joseph Larsen. Meeting Minutes - April 21, 2014
The SonRay's 4-H Club met on Monday, April 21, 2014 at the Webster County Extension Office from 2:30-4:00 pm. Recreation Leader Anna L. started the day with the 'find the number sequence' worksheet. Club Officers present: President: Austin H. and Treasurer: Luke L.-Secretary/Reporter Charles C. arrived later due to a music lesson. A quick skit was performed by Austin and Luke to show the importance of having order in club meetings-thus the introduction to Parliamentary Procedure. Pledge to American Flag led by Joseph L. and Anna H. Pledge to 4-H Flag led by Anna L. and Abigail C. Roll call was answered by 10 club members to the question: "What is your favorite ingredient in trail mix?" Two 4-H Leaders were present. Minutes of the previous meeting were read by Luke L. Motion to approve by Joseph L. and seconded by Anna L. Club Treasurer Luke L. read the treasurer report: Current balance $235.80. Luke brought up the 4-H'ers for 4-H Campaign and a motion to approve the $2.50 per 14 4-H members in our club was approved and seconded by Anna H. Club Treasurer Luke L. gave a check to Linda Cline for $35.00. In unfinished business: Club members gave presentations last month, so this month three more were given: Jonathan C. on "How to put together a bee frame for a bee hive", Abigail C. on "How to Make Cookies in a Jar", and Ruth C. on "The Parts of a Violin and Bow". New Business: Leader Jan L. reminded everyone to refer to their green County Newsletters for upcoming events and as the Fair gets closer all the postings related to fair. Jan told people about the upcoming Ag Day event in Eagle Grove on May 1st that we could have ten 4th-7th Graders participate in-need to let Linda know by Friday. Our next meeting will be held at Kennedy Park on Monday, May 19th, 2014. We will have a picnic and distribute/discuss the Fair Books. More information to follow. A motion was made by Joseph L. and seconded by Anna H. to adjourn the meeting. The club then reviewed the information regarding Parliamentary procedure and practiced using the process to make Trail Mix by voting what will be added to the snack. It was a lot of fun!
Meeting Minutes - March 17, 2014
The March 17, 2014 SonRays 4-H Meeting was held at the Extension Office from 2:30-4:00 pm. Six 4-H Members, two leaders and four family members/guests were present. Recreation leader Anna Lewandowski played a 'pass the toothpaste tube' Q and A game. Club President Austin Hermanson called the meeting to order. Pledge to American flag led by Joseph Larsen. Pledge to 4-H flag led by Anna Lewandowski. Secretary report read by Charles Chichester. Minutes moved for approval for Anna Lewandowski and seconded by Anna Hermanson. Old business: Project meetings attended-Tech Club/Joseph Larsen, Dog-Rabbit-Poultry attended by Anna Lewandowski, Rifle/ Anna Hermanson. New business: Austin Hermanson review green county newsletter upcoming events. Motion to adjourn by Anna Lewandowski and seconded by Abigail Hermanson. Refreshments provided by Chichester-Beverages and Snack by Lewandowski as Chalstrom's absent due to illness. Presentations given by: Charles Chichester: Assassination of President Lincoln, Abigail Hermanson: How to modify a recipe, Anna Hermanson: Horses, Austin Hermanson: Internet Safety, Joseph Larsen: My Cat, Anna Lewandowski: My Hamster "Lil'l Bit". Meeting Minutes-February 17, 2014
The regular meeting of the SonRays 4-H Club was held at Friendship Haven on Monday, February 17, 2014. The meeting was called to order by Club President Austin Hermanson at 3:30 pm, following a tour that began at 2:30 pm of Friendship Haven given by Linda Lauver, Sales and Marketing Director. She was a 4-H Leader for 11 years with her two sons heavily involved in 4-H. Volunteer Opportunities available-ask Jan for more information. We were also given information abut the upcoming "Cabin Fever Classic" to be held on Saturday, April 5th from 10-3 with proceeds going to benefit Friendship Haven's Good Samaritan Fund and Iowa Reading and Information Services (IRIS). Thank you to Abigail Hermanson for arranging for the tour of the newly remodeled facility. Roll call was answered to the question "What do you like best about living in Iowa?" by 13 members, with leaders and family members also present. Minutes of the previous meeting were not read. The treasurer's report was given by Club Treasurer Luke Lewandowski. Balance on hand is $141.80. Pledge to the American Flag led by Joseph Larsen and Brandon Fisher. Pledge to the 4-H Flag led by Ruth Chalstrom and Abigail Hermanson. Check to be written to Webster County Extension for two 4-H boxes at $3/each moved by Joseph Larsen and seconded by Ruth Chalstrom. A check for $100 will be deposited for working the February 4-H Food Stand at the Fairgrounds. Discussed project meetings attended and the County Interviews that were recently held. County Interview results are posted on the 4-H Website. The SonRays had seven members participate this year-yeah! Ideas for Fair Booth with the theme "Ticket to Success": ticket booth, Willy Wonka type set up with golden ticket, make booth one big ticket, roller coaster with riders being 4-H'ers-great ideas! Still need ideas for fundraiser!!! Distributed 2013/2014 SonRays Program Guide Booklets/one per family. Refer to green Webster County 4-H Newsletter for upcoming events and project meetings. *4-H Legislative Day for 4-H'ers in 7th and 8th grades to go to the Capitol on Tuesday, March 25th. If interested, contact Linda. Next meeting will be held on Monday, March 17, 2014 2:30-4:00 pm at the Extension Office: Presentation Day! All 4-H'ers are to have a presentation prepared to give at the meeting. Treats: Chalstrom, Beverages: Chichester The following hand outs were distributed to help with presentations: Examples of 4-H Project Goals (what, how, when), 4-H Goal Writing Worksheet, My Goal Calendar, Meet ART (Action, Result, Timetable)/What is a 4-H Record?, Tips for Educational Presentations, 10 Keys to Your First 4-H Presentation. Meeting was adjourned at 4 pm with a move by Abigail Hermanson and seconded by Ruth Chalstrom.

The regular meeting of the SonRays 4-H Club was held at the Webster County Extension Office on Monday, January 20, 2014. The meeting was called to order by Club President Austin Hermanson at 2:30 pm. Roll call was answered by 11 members, with leaders and family members also present. Minutes of the previous meeting were read by Club Secretary Charles Chichester and approved. The treasurer's report was given by Club Treasurer Luke Lewandowski. Balance on hand is $366.80. Old business: Officer quizzes were due January 15th. Upcoming events: County Interviews to be held on January 26/27. SonRays to work the 4-H Food stand on Saturday, Feb. 8th. Reminder to read through the monthly Webster County 4-H newsletter for upcoming events and project meetings. Next meeting will be held on Monday, February 17, 2014. Meeting was adjourned and 4-H'ers and family members went to Fort Frenzy for a tour led by Alli Berger, Sales Director and were able to stay and play at the facility.
Meeting Minutes-December 16, 2013
The regular meeting of the SonRays 4-H Club was held at Bickford Assisted Living on Monday, December 16, 2013.
The meeting was called to order by SonRays Club Vice President Jacob Lewandowski at 2:30 pm.
Roll Call ("What is your favorite winter activity?") was answered by 10 members. (Charles C., Anna, Brandon, and Gabiel F., Abigail and Anna H. (Austin-excused absence), Joseph L, and Anna, Jacob and Luke L.). 2 Visitors were present: Emily C. and Alan H. Leaders Jan L. and Kari H. were present.
Pledge to American Flag: Abi H. and Anna L. Pledge to 4-H Flag: Luke L. and Brandon F.
Vice President Jacob L. lead the meeting due to the excused absence of President Austin H.
Minutes of the November meeting were read by Secretary/Reporter Charles C. and approved.
The Treasurer's report was not given. Old business: Keifer Benefit-Thank you for contributing for this event.
New Business: Upcoming events: Officer quizzes due no later than January 15, 2014. 4-H County Interviews will be January 26-27, 2014. SonRays to work the 4-H Foodstand on Saturday, February 8,2014 all day, so please save that date as we will need everyone to help out. Check out the green Webster County 4-H Newsletter for upcoming events for Christmas break. The meeting was adjourned at 3:00 pm with a motion by Anna L and seconded by Anna H. The members did "The Right Family Christmas" gift exchange. We all then enjoyed a time of cookies/juice and Bingo with the residents. Anna L. played several Christmas songs on the piano and then all sangs Christmas songs. It was a great afternoon.
Next meeting: Monday, January 20, 2014. 2:30-3:00 pm at the Extension office and then to Fort Frenzy for tour from 3:00-4:00pm.
Meeting Minutes-November 18, 2013
The SonRays 4-H Club Meeting was held on Monday, November 18, 2013 at the Extension Office at 6pm.The following 4-H members (14) were present: Abigail, Jonathan, and Ruth Chalstrom, Charles Chichester, Anna, Brandon, and Gabriel Fisher, Abigail, Anna Lynn, and Austin Hermanson, Joseph Larsen, Anna, Jacob, and Luke Lewandowski. Club Leader Jan Lewandowski, Co-Leader( in process) Kari Hermanson, and Webster County Extension and Outreach Youth Coordinator Linda Cline and many family members were also in attendance. The meeting started with 'snap ball' for recreation. Families brought in pans of bars to donate to the Emma Kiefer Benefit that will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2013 starting at 5pm on the East Side Auditorium of the Fairgrounds. Tonight was the annual family potluck meal, so after some tasty vittles to a western theme it was time to have the meeting. Following the awards presentation, 100 % attendance certificates were given out that were earned by the following 4-H'ers: Abigail, Anna, and Austin Hermanson, and Anna, Jacob and Luke Lewandowski. Then record books were returned and distribution of premium checks. Linda Cline led the installation of officers and the welcoming new members. SonRays 4-H Club Officers for the 2013-2014 year are: President: Austin Hermanson, Vice President: Jacob Lewandowski, Secretary/Reporter: Charles Chichester, Treasurer: Luke Lewandowski, Photographer: Brandon Fisher, Recreation Leaders: Abigail Chalstrom and Anna Lewandowski. New Members: Anna Fisher and Jonathan Chalstrom. Officer books, pins, and quizzes were handed out. The officer quizzes are due back to the office by January 15, 2014. Reminder to look through the green 4-H Family Newsletter that you receive each month so you know what great opportunities are ahead. Save the dates: Dec 30th: Babysitting Clinic, Pillowcase Workshop, and Photography Training. Need to register for those activities with the Extension Office. January 26/27: County Interviews. More information in the newsletter. Feb 8: Our club works the 4-H Food Stand at the Fairgrounds-all hands on deck that day-adults, too. The SonRays 4-H Club will meet on the third Monday of each month at 2:30pm. December meeting information to follow. Anna Lewandowski will call Bickford Cottages to set up our annual trip there to provide music and bingo with the residents following our business meeting-details to follow. Meeting Minutes - October 28th, 2013
The SonRays 4-H Club held their first regular meeting for 2013-2014 on Monday, September 28, 2013 at the Webster County Extension Office from 3-4 pm. Roll call was answered to the question: "Do you prefer hot chocolate or eggnog?" by 11 club members, with several family members present as guests. Anna Fisher was welcomed as a new 4-H Club Member. Club leader Jan Lewandowski and Webster County's Linda Cline were present. 4-H'ers in attendance: Jacob, Luke, and Anna Lewandowski, Austin and Anna Hermanson, Abigail and Ruth Chalstrom, Charles Chichester, Brandon, Gabriel and Anna Fisher. Pre-meeting activity: Color Placemats for the Awards Banquet and complete the worksheet "What do you want to do/learn in 4-H this year?" Club President Jacob Lewandowski called the meeting to order. Pledge to the American Flag led by Anna L. Pledge to the 4-H Flag led by the Chalstrom sisters. Club Secretary Luke Lewandowski gave the minutes from the last meeting and they were approved. Club Treasurer Austin Hermanson gave the balance on hand: $374.70. Club President Jacob L. read through the year in review listing that Leader Jan L. had prepared. He also highlighted upcoming events from the October green newsletter and reminded club members about the contest to design the Webster County program guide. Mrs. Kari Hermanson will be taking the 4-H Leader training in November to become a co-leader for our club. Following the meeting was our Community Service Project: Preparing and serving a meal at the Beacon of Hope Men's Shelter. With their newly updated kitchen there is not enough room for all of us, so families donated parts of the meal to serve. 4-H'ers who served the meal: Jacob and Anna L, Austin and Anna H., and Charles C. Adults: Jan L. and Kari H. and Annette at the Shelter. The next meeting will be on Monday, Nov. 18 at 6pm at the Webster County Extension Office-potluck and installation of officers and welcome new members. Need volunteers to plan this event! In December we will meet on the 16th. Change of meeting times to 2:30 pm, still on the third Monday of the Month. We plan to join with the Douglas Dreamers to do Bell Ringing for the Salvation Army. Election of officers was held. Officers for the 2013-2014 4-H year are: President: Austin Hermanson, Vice President: Jacob Lewandowski, Secretary/Reporter: Charles Chichester, Treasurer: Luke Lewandowski, Photographer: Brandon Fisher, Recreation Leaders: Abigail Chalstrom and Anna Lewandowski.
Meeting Minutes - September 16, 2013
The SonRay's 4-H Club met on Monday, September 16, 2013 at the Fort Museum and Frontier Village at 1:00 pm. Members present: Leader-Jan Lewandowski, Jacob, Luke, and Anna Lewandowski, Abi, Austin, Anna Hermanson, Joseph Larsen, Charles Chichester. Visitors: Kari and Alan Hermanson, Angelica, Emily and baby brother Chichester. Meeting was called to order by Club President Jacob Lewandowski. Pledges to the American and 4-H Flags were said. Roll Call was answered to the question: "What is your favorite holiday treat?". Next meeting: Monday October 21, 2013. Possible meeting and then cooking for the Beacon of Hope-Abi Hermanson will check into this and more information will follow. We will hold the election of club officers at that meeting and the new officers will be installed at the November meeting. Looking for a location for the November potluck-awards/installation of officers-possibly November 4th at 6:30 pm. We discussed participating in more Citizinship activities. Bell ringing for the Salvation Army? Will see if we can do this with the Douglas Dreamers since we are a smaller group.
October 6-12 is National 4-H Week. Jacob Lewandowski discussed the County Council. Promoted the contest to design a cover for the 4-H booklets. Secretary report read by Club Secretary Luke Lewandowski. Treasurer report given by Club Treasurer Austin Hermanson. All families need to do the on-line process to re-enroll. Please do so as soon as possible! RECORD BOOKS ARE DUE NOW! Also, officer books are due at this time-secretary/reporter and treasurer books need to be turned in as soon as possible. Any questions, please contact Jan Lewandowski. See the green monthly 4-H Family Newsletter for lots of upcoming opportunities. We talked about possible fundraisers: any ideas? Build a playhouse or make a large quilt to raffle or set up a table at the Flea Market ideas were discussed. Refreshments provided by: Drink-Lewandowski, Snacks-Hermanson.At 1:30 pm a motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Joseph Larsen, and Anna Hermanson seconded the motion.
Following the meeting, a tour of the Fort Musuem and Frontier Village was led by Alan from the Fort. Admission was $3/student and adults were free. The tour lasted about an hour or so.
