Washington County 4-H County Council will be sponsoring an IJBBA sanctioned open cattle show on Saturday, April 19 at the Washington County Fairgrounds.  This event is open to youth of all ages up to 21.  Exhibitors do not need to be a member of the IJBBA or a member of 4-H, however, members of the IJBBA will receive points.  Click here for flyer and registration form.

Washington County 4th - 6th grades 4-H'ers are invited to attend Region 15 4-H Jr. Camp June 10-12.  Junior members will buss together to the Iowa 4-H Center in Madrid for camping adventures and outdoor fun!

They will enjoy air conditioned cabins, wall climging, creek walks, zip lining, team challenges and campfires.  Iowa, Keokuk, and Johnson County 4-H'ers will also attend, so it's a perfect time to make new 4-H friends.

The Keokuk Master Gardeners have published a Wild Flower book. There are 28 wild flowers in this book, with descriptions of the flowers, where to find them and when they will bloom. This book is a way to get youth interested in outdoor activities, horticulture and wild flowers. There is a scavenger hunt with scoring for finding the flowers in the book.

ISU Extension and Outreach, Washington County Office announces the addition of Karen Bates Chabal as the new office assistant.   She began work Monday, December 9.
“It’s nice to be able to return to my home community and renew ties,” Bates Chabal said. “I’m really pleased to have the opportunity to be able to work with Washington County Extension and I’m looking forward to being a part of the excellent services and programs of ISU Extension and Outreach.”

Jim Frier's efforts set the stage for current Washington County programs which remain strong today based on the solid foundation Jim helped build. Washington County’s rich history of Extension and 4-H can be traced back to Jim Frier.
Jim served as the Washington County Extension Director from 1960-1992 – the longest term of any Extension Director in Washington County history.
