The Riverside Ramblers 4-H Club recently made their second $500 donation to the Washington County Fair Building Fund. This met the Horse and Pony 4-H Club challenge issued last July. Their challenge was this: If eight 4-H clubs donate $500 each to the new building, the Horse & Pony Club will add $500 to the $500 they donated last July.
Jim Schneider, Riverside Ramblers leader, said, “The kids decided since we were one of the bigger 4-H clubs in the county they wanted to donate more to the building. We had a couple of individuals give our club money with the purpose of it going to the new building.” Members and leaders also contributed money to the cause.
Schneider commented that the new building will be a big benefit to the fairgrounds and community. “It will be nice to have all the projects in one building so fairgoers can easily view what the 4-Hers have done,” said Schneider. “Our kids think it is a great idea. With shower facilities available it will save a lot of time because they won’t have to drive 10 or 20 miles to take a shower and come back to the fairgrounds,” he added.
For those wishing to donate to the new building Schneider recommends donating soon so the fairboard can reach their goal and start construction soon. Donations may be payable to the Washington County Fair Building Fund through Hills Bank & Trust, PO Box 1210, Kalona, IA 52247.
