FSQA Training for 4-H & FFA Livestock Exhibitors

All market and breeding beef, bucket bottle, swine, sheep, dairy (cattle & goat), meat goat, rabbit and poultry exhibitors are REQUIRED to be FSQA certified to exhibit at the county fair and State Fair in 2013.

 

The following are dates and locations in the area offering trainings: 

Mon., April 8, 6:30 - 8:30 pm            Muscatine Co. Ext. Office - Muscatine 563-263-5701

Tues, April 23, 6:30-8:30 pm            Muscatine Co. Ext. Office - Muscatine 563-263-5701

Thurs., May 30, 6:30-8:00 p.m.        Mahaska Co. Ext. Office-Oskaloosa-641-673-5841

Mon., June 3, 6:00-8:00 pm             Henry Co. Ext. Office - Mt. Pleasant 319-385-8126

FSQA is an educational program with the purpose to:

  1. Help youth understand their role in the food supply chain
  2. Educate youth about the importance of following a quality assurance program
  3. Certify exhibitors in FSQA

 

Vets cannot certify members for FSQA. You may only be certified by attending the training or passing the test. 

 

The certification may take 2 forms: attend a 2-hour class or obtain certification by testing.

  • Junior members-grades 4-6
    • MUST TAKE THE CLASS every year as a junior
  • Intermediate members-grades 7-9
    • Option 1: Take the class every year
    • Option 2: Take the class and then take the test.  When the test is passed, you don’t have to take it again until you are a senior member.
    • Option 3: Take the test and pass.  You don’t have to take it again until you are a senior member.
  • Senior members-grades 10-12
    • Option 1: Take the class every year
    • Option 2: Take the class and then take the test.  Once passed as a senior, you no longer need to attend the class or retest.
    • Option 3: Take the test and pass.  Once passed as a senior, you no longer need to attend the class or retest.

If you are a re-enrolled 4-H member, you will be able to see when your FSQA certificate expires on 4-H Online! This can only be done when you have been re-enrolled, so if you have not re-enrolled online yet, please do so soon!!!
