Barn Quilts of Washington County, Iowa is pleased to announce that Pioneer Hi-Bred, a DuPont business, donated $1,000 toward the barn quilts project begun this past January.
This grant originated with a request from Local Pioneer Sales Representative Fred Greiner of Washington through Pioneer Community Investment.
The funds will be used to construct 8’ by 8’ painted plywood quilt squares to hang on barns throughout Washington County, and to publicize the project.
The mission of the barn quilt project is to simultaneously increase tourism and encourage barn preservation. Quilts are a $3 billion industry in the US and barn quilts are an exciting new development in attracting visitors. Additional income from tourists will help local businesses, including barn owners, and foster more and better barn preservation efforts. Already, several of the barns involved in the project have been or are scheduled to be painted, sided or shored up.
“Everyone in Washington County knows Pioneer to be a great corporate friend to Iowa communities. We are so pleased they agree with us that barn quilts will help farmers and all other citizens alike. We really appreciate their grant and the support it shows,” says project committee co-chair Julie Mangold.
Pioneer Community Investment is the philanthropic resource base of Pioneer. The department invests Pioneer resources in programs that add economic or social value to its communities and address rural economic and social issues.
Community Outreach grants go to communities where Pioneer representatives, employees and customers live and work. Pioneer sales professionals or employees are often relied upon to bring community needs to attention, as well as champion or sponsor the request.
