Barn Quilts of Washington County met Thursday, April 5, at 7:00 p.m. at the Extension Office. Julie Mangold called the meeting to order. Ten committee members were present. The group welcomed Rita Stogdill as a new member.
The minutes from the March 22 meeting were approved. Kathy Ebert presented a Treasurer’s report. Volunteer hour sheets were turned in with hours to-date totaling 417.25.
Programs on the barn quilt project will be presented to the following: Washington Betterment Foundation, Leadership Washington, Y’s Men, the McCreedy Home and the Lions Club.
The construction committee reported Terry Philips is finishing up the prototype for the barn quilt blocks. They will be primed and ready to paint when the painting group receives them. Andi Reynolds from publicity/fundraising reported on the status of grant applications.
The barn committee reported they have received confirmation letters from eight barn owners in the first loop. More are expected in the next two weeks. By the next meeting the committee should have final names and numbers for this loop.
The special projects committee heard back from the National Corn Growers Association. A speaker will be coming but it has not been determined if the quilt can be displayed. Possible events were discussed including a coloring contest, an Iron Chef Challenge and a raffle. Barn Quilts of Washington County, IA will have a display at the Kalona Quilt Show
The first in the series of collector pins has been ordered. The pin will be the Washington County Barn Quilt signature loop with a pumpkin seed pattern. It will be red and white with lettering around the edges. They will sell for $5.00 each or a set for $20.00.
The meeting adjourned at 9:15 p.m. The next meeting will be April 19 at 7:00 p.m. at the Kalona Chamber of Commerce Office. Anyone interested in this project is encouraged to attend.
