A record cool summer had made for a late maturing corn crop this fall. Much of Iowa’s crop is just matured in early October. While in-field drying still normally occurs in October, the best drying conditions are usually in late September. With a record cool first half of October, field dry down has been slow.

The Fairgrounds Building Committee recently received a $2,500 donation from Federation Bank. This is the second donation from Federation Bank bringing their total to $5,000.

Jim Schneider Named Kiss-A-Pig King (Posted on 11/1/2005)
In a hotly contested race, Jim Schneider, Riverside Ramblers 4-H club leader, was named the Kiss-A-Pig king in the second annual Kiss-A-Pig contest at the Washington County Fair. A total of $1425.00 was raised during the week, all of which will be donated to the new building on the fairgrounds.
76 Progressives "Clean Up" for New Building (Posted on 8/5/2005)
The 76 Progressives 4-H Club washed windows for over 30 businesses in Keota on April 23 and May 7 to raise money for the new building at the fairgrounds.
4-H Horse & Pony Club Spurs Others to Action (Posted on 4/7/2005)
The Horse & Pony club has spurred other 4-H clubs toward donating money to the Washington County Fair Building fund. In July, the Horse & Pony club donated $500 to the fund and extended a challenge to all other Washington County 4-H clubs.

The Riverside Ramblers 4-H Club recently made their second $500 donation to the Washington County Fair Building Fund. This met the Horse and Pony 4-H Club challenge issued last July.

The Kalona Klassics 4-H club has donated $600 to the new Washington County Fair Exhibition Hall on the fairgrounds. The club raised the money by sacking groceries at Cub Foods and having a food stand at the Kalona Days celebration in June.

Four Washington County 4-Hers joined forces recently to donate over $2,500 to the fundraising campaign for a new building to be built at the Washington County Fairgrounds. As their livestock entered the ring at the county fair livestock auction it was announced that they would donate all or part of their proceeds to the Exhibition Hall Building Fund.

4-H held an auction during the Award Family Fun Night on October 16th. Following the 4-H awards and supper, a brief auction was held to raise money for the new Washington County Fair Exhibition Hall on the fairgrounds. The auction brought $1330 for the new building.

4-H Apple Pie Promotion Raises Nearly $1,000! (Posted on 11/17/2004)
Washington County 4-H partnered with Washington Hy-Vee for the Apple Pie Promotion. 4-H'ers, parents, and volunteers made fresh apple pies last week and through the weekend. Nearly $1,000 was raised for the new Washington County Fair Exhibition Hall.
