November 20, 2014

In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, the Washington County Extension office will be closed on November 27 and 28.  We will be open for business on Monday, December 1, at 8:00 am.

2014 Farm Bill
November 6, 2014

Farmers and landowners will learn about the new programs authorized by the Agricultural Act of 2014 (commonly referred to as the Farm Bill) at an informational meeting conducted by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and local USDA Farm Service Agency staff members. Meetings will be held on Monday, November 24, at 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm at the Washington County Extension Office. Click for flyer.

Cover crops
November 13, 2014

Iowa Learning Farms and Practical Farmers of Iowa will host several cover crop workshops across Iowa in November.  The Rob Stout farm in rural Washington will be a local workshop site on November 20.   Workshop topics range from using cover crop mixtures, selecting the right cover crop, using cover crops to enhance soil and water quality, cover crop effects on soil health and more.  Click here for flyer.

Ag Chemical Meeting
November 12, 2014

Agricultural crop consultants and input suppliers will want to attend the Agricultural Chemical Dealer Update in Iowa City on November 25, 2014, according to Virgil Schmitt, Iowa State University Extension Field Agronomist.  “These meetings are an excellent opportunity for crop consultants and input providers to meet with Extension specialists to review current research, discuss new products, and learn of new recommendations,” Schmitt said. 

4-H Clover
November 12, 2014

Senior level 4-H’ers (grades 9-12) are invited to participate in a workshop to learn more about the State and National level 4-H opportunities, prepare for 4-H scholarships and network within the region.   Join other 4-H’ers from across Region 15 (Iowa, Johnson, Keokuk and Washington County) on Monday, December 29 at the Johnson County Extension Office to explore the possibilities available to you!
