Iowans should take a look at their credit report every year, says Susan Taylor, a family finance specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.  “Information in your history may be correct and that’s great, but there may be information that is not accurate,” Taylor said. “Check your credit report to make sure you really are ‘you.’”  Taylor learned the importance of this annual step from personal experience.

Hollyhocks are grown for the their showy, colorful flowers. A common disease problem on hollyhocks, called rust, can also lead to 'colorful' foliage.  Several specimens have been brought to the Washington County Extension office recently.   The rust fungus causes raised brown spots, usually pinhead-size or larger, on the undersides of leaves. The upper leaf surface shows orange to yellow spots. The raised spots may coalesce, killing larger areas of leaves.  Orange pustules also form on the stems of the plants.

Extended periods of rainfall, flooding, hail, or all of the above have producers scrambling for replant or prevented planting options. Each choice has practical and economic implications, so should be approached with some thought.

Farm Lease Agreement

Washington County Extension will host a farmland lease meeting on Tuesday, August 19, at the Washington County Extension office at 6:00 p.m.  Ryan Drollette, Iowa State University Extension Farm Management Specialist, will present the program.  More information will be coming soon.
