Iowa State Extension will again be conducting the Strengthening Families Program during the months of January and February in 2010.  The Strengthening Families Program is a communication program for 6th graders and their families.  This program is designed to build on family strengths, encourage appreciation for one another, improve your relationship with your child, and decrease the likelihood of family conflicts and risky adolescent behaviors.

The Program consists of just seven two-hour sessions where families learn how to effectively communicate with each other through many fun, hands on activities.  While growing and learning together you will learn how to show love while setting limits and also develop skills to help handle the peer pressure that is often encountered during the pre-teen and teen years.

The Program will run each Sunday or Monday during January and February.  The Sunday sessions are held at the Wapello County Extension Office from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.  The Monday sessions will be held at Evans Middle School from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Both sessions include a free dinner, free childcare for other children in the family, and fun prizes!

If you need more information or are interested in signing up for the Strengthening Families Program please contact Mary Beth Delaney at Iowa State Extension of Wapello County, 641-682-5491.
