Cochran Armenian Fellowship Program
The ISU Extension Value Added Agriculture Program partnered with the ISU Extension Global Agriculture Program and the ISU College of Veterinary Medicine to conduct a two-week training program in May 2010 on Animal Health for five Armenian veterinarians. The program was made possible through the USDA Foreign Agriculture Service Cochran Fellowship Program (http://www.fas.usda.gov/icd/cochran/cochran.asp).
The agricultural training program provided an overview of the animal health industry in Iowa. Cochran Fellows gained a broad understanding of the Iowa animal health industry including on-farm livestock production, the management of veterinary businesses, disease prevention and control and government and organization contributions to the industry. In particular, training covered dairy production practices, nutrition, AI and breeding technologies, surveillance and reporting of disease, structure of the industry, and disease identification and treatment. The training included visits to Iowa State University, government agencies, veterinary organizations and farms. The five Armenian veterinarians plan to use the knowledge gained to develop brucellosis control programs, set up a demonstration and teaching private veterinary practice, and to increase cooperation among industry sectors through creation of an Armenian Veterinary Association.

Cochran Chinese Fellowship Program
A group of Chinese food editors traveled to Iowa in October 2006 on a Cochran Fellowship program to learn about Iowa agriculture and food production and marketing within the United States. Powerpoint
