Welcome to Dr. Adam Thoms

July 5, 2016

Join me in welcoming Dr. Adam Thoms to the Iowa State University Faculty.  He began his new extension job on July 1, 2016.

Dr. Adam Thoms joined the Horticulture Department on July 1 as the newest member of the Turfgrass team. His research will focus on helping the commercial turfgrass industry in Iowa including golf courses, athletic fields, and professional home lawn care companies. Adam is a native of Waverly, Iowa and obtained his B.S. degree from Iowa State in the Department of Horticulture with a turfgrass focus. He attended the University of Tennessee for both his M.S. and Ph.D.; he was also the Research Leader for the University of Tennessee Center for Athletic Field Safety. His program will conduct research and extension activities to understand best management practices that reduce inputs to turfgrass systems. These research projects will include improving root zone management, promoting best management practices for fertility and pesticides on turfgrass in Iowa, and improving athletic field safety and performance.  Adam is excited to join the Department of Horticulture and help the turfgrass industry in Iowa.  Come meet Dr. Thoms at the ISU Turfgrass Field Day on July 28th.
