If you are currently using VPN (Virtual Private Network) on either your laptop or a home computer and you haven't upgraded to the SSL version of VPN from the certificate based version, you will want to do so before the end of May.
The certificate-based version of VPN is scheduled to go out of service on May 27, 2009. After this date, you will need to be upgraded to the new SSL VPN in order to establish a Virtual Private Network back to campus.
To install the new version, go here
If you're unsure which version of VPN you're currently using, check under Start...Programs. The new version will be in a folder called 'Cisco' and the program itself is called 'Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client' (The older certificate-based version would be listed as Cisco Systems VPN Client...VPN Client). Or, you can simply go to http://vpn.iastate.edu. If the website asks you to login, then you've installed the new version of VPN (if you haven't installed, it will try to automatically install--follow these instructions to complete the installation).
If you don't know what VPN is, you do not have to worry about this issue. However, you can find out more basic information about what VPN is and when you might want to use it here.
