How can you tell this is NOT legitimate?

  1. The message is 'From:' "IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY" which is
    • In quotes and all-caps
    • NOT from an actual individual who you can check in the Staff directory or contact outside this email
  2. The URL does NOT go to an iastate.edu address
  3. The message itself could tell you what the updates are. It should not require you to type your username and password on a random non-Iowa State University page..

ISU IT Services and ISU Extension IT will NOT ask you for your net-ID and password in an email. And you will NEVER be asked to input or change your password on a non-Iowa State web page.

If you ever have questions about an email like this one, you can call the Extension computer hotline at 515.294.1725 or via email at eithotline@iastate.edu
