Recently ISU's Information Technology Services sent out the following message to all Exchange users:
In order to reduce the amount of storage required by the ISU exchange mail system, beginning April 18, 2011 items in the "Deleted Items" and "Junk E-mail" folders will be deleted after 14 days. These deleted messages are retained and recoverable with your Outlook client for an additional 30 days after the date of deletion using the "Recover Deleted Items" option.
If you consider items that you put in your Deleted Items folder to be deleted, this change will not affect you. If you accidently put an item in your Deleted Items folder, you'll still have 14 days to realize the mistake and remove it before that item is deleted. Even after the item has been permanently deleted, you will still have 30 days to recover it through the 'Recover Deleted Items' option in Outlook.
If you have in the past used 'Deleted Items' for storing email you want to refer to later, you will need to use other folders for this going forward. You can create new folders in Outlook 2010 by right-clicking on the top mailbox level (which is usually your net-id) and selecting 'New Folder'.
NOTE: Email storage is not infinite. When you regularly remove emails that are no longer needed, you'll not only help with storage for all email users, but Outlook will run better and more efficiently for you.
