Do Not Call Registry

The Federal Government created the National Do Not Call Registry to make it easier and more efficient for you to reduce the number of unwanted calls. You can register online or call toll free 1-888-382-1222. Your registration is free and will be effective for five years.  

Most telemarketers should not call your number once it has been it is on the registry for 31 days starting January 1, 2005. If you do continue to receive unwanted calls you can file a complaint online of by calling 1-888-CALL-FCC. To further reduce calls just say, "Put me on your Do Not Call list". They are required to comply with your request.

Cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls.  If you don't have minutes to waste call 888-382-1222 from your cell phone or to the website at https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx to include your cell phone numbers on the registry.

Another source you can use to stop those unwanted calls is to call 1-888-5-opt-out. This service is operated by the three major credit bureaus. It will reduce the number of pre-screened credit card offers, insurance and other offers you may receive.

Remember to respond to annul privacy notices. Financial institutions, insurance companies and other financial organizations are required to notify you each year as to how they handle your personal information. Reply in writing that do not want them to share personal data.
