Take the stress out of Shakespeare. What can you do to make Shakespeare matter to your students? The study of Shakespeare can be a daunting task for teachers and students. The University of Northern Iowa, in partnership with Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C., will be presenting Shakespeare Set Free workshops for teachers this summer.
Earn one graduate credit hour for attending the one-day workshop and submitting a collaborative lesson planning assignment within two weeks of the workshop.

Literacy Education Master's Degree Program
A new Literacy Education master's degree cohort will begin in the fall of 2008. Courses are tentatively planned Tuesday evenings during the fall and spring semesters with limited on-campus coursework during the summers.
The Literacy Education specialty area is designed to develop and extend the expertise of educators in both leadership and classroom positions who wish to specialize in the area of literacy education. Students examine theories, programs and practices in the teaching of literacy, the evaluation of literacy development and the integration of literacy across curricular areas. The program can assist in meeting the State of Iowa professional development plan requirement.
Graduate Early Childhood Education Endorsement Program
The UNI Department of Curriculum and Instruction is proposing to a GECEEP to interested education professionals, designed for infant through Grade 3 teachers. Coursework will be completed online and/or via the Iowa Communications Network on Tuesday evenings with the exception of the final course and second practicum which may be offered face-to-face at the UNI Child Development Center for the Infant/Toddler practicum.
Professional development opportunities for community college and secondary educators

CERTIFICATE IN FOOD SAFETY AND DEFENSE
The online Food Safety and Security Certificate program provides graduate students and food-related professionals advanced education in food safety and bio-security issues. The Certificate emphasizes the effective control of food borne hazards from accidental or deliberate contamination with pathogenic microbes and/or toxicants.
Iowa State University, Kansas State University, University of Nebraska (Lincoln), and the University of Missouri (Columbia) have established a multi-state agricultural consortium to develop and deliver high-priority collaborative distance education programs in the food and agricultural sciences. MASTER OF EDUCATION OR SCIENCE PREPARATION FOR LEADERSHIP
(PreLEAD-School Principal Certification)
A master's program of 36 credits, called PREparation for LEADership, or PreLEAD, leads to licensing as a school administrator. Courses are structured to build leadership skills in organizational processes, scope and framework of schools, and interpersonal dimensions.
PreLEAD participants attend a two-year program of night and Saturday classes offered Statewide to selected Area Education Association sites, or commit to three summers of intensive preparation.
The Bachelor of Applied Studies (BAS) degree at The University of Iowa is designed for graduates of community college technical programs who wish to complete a bachelor's degree, but who, due to family and/or employment responsibilities, cannot engage in traditional,on-campus study.
The external BAS degree provides alternatives to traditional majors. Because the program does not have departmental major requirements, students work with an adviser to plan their own areas of emphasis.
SkillSoft Non-Credit Courses from the University of Iowa
Professional development courses previously only available to UI students, faculty and staff, are now available online to all Iowans.
