Guided Independent Study

Guided Independent Study courses (GIS) offer another way to meet degree requirements. The University of Iowa and The University of Northern Iowa provide a wide range or offerings. Students may enroll without being admitted and courses are self-paced. GIS courses are not listed in the SWIRRC semester class index.

The University of Northern Iowa offers more than 70 self-paced courses in print and web-based formats. Enrollment is open so you may begin at any time and take up to nine months to complete a course. For UNI GIS courses visit www.uni.edu/continuinged/gis/.

The University of Iowa offers more than 70 internet-based GIS courses each semester. Enrollment is semester-based but students may take one or two semester to complete a course. To find courses visit http://isis5.uiowa.edu/isis/courses/search.page and search for Guided Independent Studies instruction in the appropriate semester.
