Partnering with Parents is designed to
strengthen the core competencies of parenting educators. Two of the
11 modules in the series will be offered via a four-week online
workshop: (1) The Journey of Parenting Education (2) Cultural
Perspectives on Parenting
The Journey of Parenting Education: Learn about
parenting practices in the United States during the past century,
current trends, and develop a vision for the future. You will
self-assess your knowledge and skills, begin to develop a personal
philosophy of parenting education, identify your personal
preferences, and learn about competencies and traits helpful to
facilitating parent learning.
Cultural Perspectives on Parenting: You will
further understand your own culture and how it influences your
values, attitudes, expectations, and parenting practices. You will
learn about values held by other cultures and the influence of these
values on parenting practices. Parents of various cultures will share
their perspectives and experiences. Cultural stereotypes will be
explored, as well as applying principles of family-centered practices
when building relationships with families of cultures different from
your own.
Chat rooms, discussion boards, email, video
streams, small group assignments and surveys will be used to
facilitate learning. Visit the Partnering with Parents Web site,
