McNay Research Farm Field Day Set for Sept.10
CHARITON, Iowa -- The annual Iowa State University McNay Memorial Research Farm fall field day is Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the farm, southwest of Chariton. Crops and grazing research is the focus of the event with Iowa State faculty, staff and graduate students presenting information. Registration begins at 4 p.m. at the farm headquarters; the program starts at 4:30 p.m. ISU Extension and Outreach field agronomist Mark Carlton and beef program specialist Joe Sellers will lead discussions on alfalfa plots and annual forage crop demonstration.
Dan Loy and Patrick Gunn, extension beef specialists, will provide updates on the multi-state beef feed efficiency project and a beef breeding project update. Steve Barnhart, forage specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach, will talk about fescue renovation recommendations, and Iowa State students Laura Daniels and Justin Bisinger will describe the status of current grazing projects.
A free dinner prepared by the Lucas County Cattlemen’s Association will be served at the farm headquarters.
