Tip of the Month: Spring Planting
Tip of the Month from Mark Licht, Extension Field Agronomist:
Spring planting is right around the corner whether it’s your vegetable garden or the thousands of acres or corn and soybeans around us. Spring is a good time to remember to be patient when driving on country roads and encountering large farm equipment. Just as you are in a hurry to get to your destination farmers try their best to minimize traffic disruptions. Spring is also a good time to think about safety from other aspects as well. ATV’s and dirt bikes are common place on farms but also on non-farm acreages. Take the time to know how to safely operate and train others who may be using them. Have helmets available that properly fit users. Make sure the ATV or dirt bike is well maintained and tires are in good conditions. Most importantly make sure when you’re out enjoying nature you put safety as your first priority for yourself and others around you.
