dog at nursing home, school, library, hospital

Are you interested in making a difference in your community?  Do you think you and your dog would make good partners?  Story County Extension is offering a new program to 4-H'ers and youth interested in joining this 4-H club.  It is called Animal-Assisted Therapy and we would be introducing a new way to help people in nursing homes, hospitals, schools, and libraries with your dog at your side!

The program would train youth to understand their dogs better and train their dogs basic obedience.  The training will be to prepare for registration with the Delta Society, which would enable teams to visit various facilities to provide comfort and help to those in need.  For more information about Delta Society, visit their website: www.deltasociety.org.  We will also be working with an already established program, an affiliate of the Delta Society, Paws & Effect of Des Moines.

If you would like to learn more about this new program please contact Adriana at 515-382-6551 or aharle@iastate.edu.
