Story County 4-H’ers and volunteers were recognized for their accomplishments during the Story County 4-H Awards Program held at Gates Hall on Sunday, October 25.  Awards were given to over 200 4-H’ers and 50 volunteers.  It was a great celebration to congratulate 4-H’ers on their project accomplishments and achievements this past year and to thank volunteers for their years of service.

Volunteers share their knowledge and guidance with the 4-H’ers in one or more volunteer roles.  These roles may include serving as a club leader, offering a project workshop, being a county fair superintendent, preparing a newsletter, serving on the 4-H Youth Development Committee, and more.

4-H’ers were recognized for completing their first year in 4-H, completing club officer roles, and overall club achievement awards as determined by the club leaders.  They also had the opportunity to receive participation awards by completing requirements that included attending a county event and participating in a communication experience.  Some 4-H’ers submitted an application for an award in a project area by submitting their related project records.  4-H’ers who submitted applications for the top county 4-H awards also completed an interview with two evaluators.  The awards program also provided a great opportunity to recognize youth for their state 4-H accomplishments.

Recognition provides a great opportunity to celebrate youth, volunteers, and the 4-H program.  The 4-H program provides great experiences for youth and adults to learn together and from each other.  Youth develop a great sense of team work and grow skills in leadership, citizenship, communication, and other life skills through their 4-H experience.
