What does it take to be a leader?
Many youth in our county would love to participate in Clover Kids but they can not because of the lack of adult leaders. Your role as a leader is to teach fun, hands-on activities to youth. Our role in Extension is to provide you with all of the tools you need to have a successful group and to have fun yourself. To become a leader you will go through a short two hour training program to familiarize yourself with the curriculum and the mission and philosophies of Extension's 4-H and Youth Programs . To be counted as Clover Kids, you need to commit to at least six hours of teaching time per year. That is why the program is so flexible.
How flexible is the program?
As a leader you can run several sessions over a short period of time or hold meetings over a long period of time. For example, one Clover Kid group would meet over a span of two weeks for a total of six hours. During that two weeks they would meet four times for one and a half hours. Then the leader would take a month or two off and then offer a new set of activities for another two week session. In another example, the leaders of a group hold meetings twice a month for several months.
Thus, the schedule of the club depends on the leader. You decide what you can do. Please contact Nicole Bruce, program coordinator for more information. She will be happy to answer any of your questions.
