May 2007
At the May meeting of the Happy Homebodies 4-H club, members from all over Story County toured Nevada Historical Society’s Evergreen Lane where Joann Hunt kindly showed us the main house and carriage house. Touring the carriage house was very interesting because of all the attic spaces and hidden or small spots in it. The main house also has a really cool, really small, stairway you can go down if you are brave. When our tour was over we picked up sticks on the grounds to thank Nevada Historical Society for the tour. We made this part into a game which was a lot of fun. Our club will not have any more meetings until August. For more information please contact Mrs. Drury at (515)-233-8778, or the Story County Extension office at (515)-382-6551.

April 2007
At the April meeting of the Happy Homebodies 4-H club, members from all over Story County tie-dyed t-shirts, shorts, and even socks. Mrs. Pilgrim, who was gracious enough to do the tie-dying with our club again this year, also showed us a different technique called marbling. Marbling is where you float the dye on top of a special liquid, swirl it around with a fork or stick to make a pattern, and then lay your piece of cloth or paper on top to soak up the dye. Several 4-Hers tried marbling and the results were fantastic! 11 members answered the roll call question which was “What is your favorite horse name?” The club’s next meeting will be May 18, from 1:00pm to 3:00 pm. It will be at Christy Hall in Nevada. For more information please contact Mrs. Drury at (515)-233-8778, or the Story County Extension office at (515)-382-6551.

January 2007
Do you know what “The Four Things” are? The Happy Homebodies do. At the January meeting of the Happy Homebodies 4-H club, all of the club’s 4-Hers found out what “The Four Things” are. “The Four Things” are used in writing 4-H projects, and “The Four Things” are:
- Goal
- What I did
- What I learned
- Future Plans
The 4-H members also learned about design elements and principles, and how to include them in write-ups.
After the meeting, Happy Homebodies members and Clover Kids enjoyed making valentines for the residents of the Rolling Green Nursing Home.
The club’s next meeting is February 16, from 1:00 - 3:00pm. It will be at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Nevada.
For more information please contact Mrs. Drury at (515)-233-8778, or the Story County Extension office at (515)-382-6551.

December 2006
Can you identify your friend in a picture? Probably, but can you identify them in a baby picture? Well the Happy Homebodies 4-H members did. At their December 4-H meeting and Christmas party, the members of the Happy Homebodies 4-H club played charades, a baby photo game, and had a lot of fun. They also collected money for a children’s cafeteria in Paraguay, and canned food for the Nevada food pantry.
There was a member presentation about Paraguay by Wesley, one of the younger 4-H’ers, and a presentation about building gingerbread houses by Grace, an intermediate 4-H’er.
The club’s next meeting will be January 19, 2007, from 1:00-3:00pm. It will be held at Christy Hall.
For more information please contact Mrs. Drury, the club leader, at (515)-233-8778, or the Story County Extension office.

September 2006
The Happy Homebodies held their regular meeting on September 15, 2006. Bethany called the meeting to order. Emma led the Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag. Charlotte led the roll call. Roll call question was: What is your favorite animal? Eleven members were present. Three visitors attended. Charlotte gave the Secretary’s report. Emma gave the Treasurer’s report.
For old business, the club played the newsletter game. The next item of business was to have member reports of the members that had exhibits at the State Fair. Bethany gave a presentation, Joshua had a photography exhibit, and Charlotte had a home improvement exhibit. The next item of business was to vote on activities to purchase for the club to use at their day at the Iowa 4-H Center in Madrid. The “Thank-A-Donor” cards were passed around. The club voted to give cards to Brekke’s, Story County Co-op, and Nevada Feed & Seed. There was no other old business.
For new business, the club discussed the 2006-2007 enrollments. The next item of business was to discuss the officer elections that are going to be held in October. There was no other new business. Mrs. Drury gave the leader’s report. Emma led the 4-H pledge.
Bethany adjourned the meeting. The Clover Kids made homemade stampers out of foam and played at the 4-H park.
The activity for the meeting was a rocket launch. It was really fun. Lots of rockets were launched during that time down at the field next to the Billy Sunday baseball field.
The next meeting of the Happy Homebodies 4-H club will be on October 20, 2006 at Christy Hall at 1 – 3 p.m.
For more information about the club, please contact the club’s leader, Mrs. Drury, at 515-233-8778.

Summer Activities
The Happy Homebodies 4-H club held four summer activities. The activities were: the Achievement show, a picnic at the Ledges State Park, a picnic at Hickory Grove County Park, and camping at the Ledges State Park.
The club’s Achievement show was held on June 15, 2006 at the Extension Service meeting room. Mrs. Pilgrim and Mrs. Hall were the judges. The main idea for our achievement show is to have the judges look at the things that are going to be taken to the county 4-H fair and double check that the participants have been correctly enrolled in the project areas. The judges make suggestions about how to improve your project write-up.
The club’s “after-the-fair” picnic at the Ledges was held on July 28, 2006. There was no regular July meeting. The activities were: hiking, playing in the creek, and a picnic.
The picnic at Hickory Grove County Park was held on August 11, 2006. This gathering was originally the August meeting, but there were not enough members at 1 o’clock to conduct a regular meeting, so it was a picnic only. The activity was hiking.
The campout at the Ledges State Park was held on September 8 - 9th, 2006. The campout was really fun! Three families camped. Other members came during the day on Friday and Saturday. There was lot of hiking and playing in the creek.
The next meeting of the Happy Homebodies will be held on October 20, 2006 from 1-3 pm at Christy Hall in Nevada.
For more information about the club, please contact the club’s leader, Mrs. Drury, at 515-233-8778.

Mrs. Drury passed around the signup sheet for the achievement show in the county fair hosting assignment sheet. Lydia brought up that the club had signed up to put a display in the window box in downtown Nevada. Bethany will call a committee meeting and Cyndie will talk to someone to get the display done in July. There was no other old business.
There was no new business.
Mrs. Drury gave the leader’s report. Grace led the 4-H pledge. Bethany adjourned the meeting.
Grace gave a member presentation on her dollhouse. The scheduled activity for the meeting was walking the dogs and petting the cats at Story County Animal Control.
