Description:
Funtivities is a curriculum resource with a focus on:
- Stimulating youth interest in science and mathematics.
- Improving youth science and mathematics literacy.
- Encouraging female participation in science and mathematics and gender equity for all students.
- Providing hands-on activities that allow students to see that science and mathematics can be fun.
Funtivities is part of the project "Linking Girls and Their Technological Futures," funded by the National Science Foundation. Partners in the project are the Iowa State University Program for Women in Science and Engineering, Moingona Girl Scout Council, E-SET, and the Boddy Media Group.
Format:
Level One for grades 4-5 provides 16 experiential activities related to electricity, magnets, air pressure and mathematics.
Level Two for grades 6-8 provides 16 experiential activities related to electricity, magnets, friction, density, chemistry and mathematics.
The accompanying educator guides include information on youth development, experiential learning, gender equity and background information on each science and mathematics concept and tips for facilitation of each activity. A trainer's guide with an accompanying gender equity videotape is also available. Training is required but low in cost.

Science process, learning to learn, cooperation, keeping records, decision making, problem solving.
