4-H provides an opportunity for youth in grades 4-12 to become a member of a club that meets monthly. Activities often include projects, guest speakers, communication experiences, and community service. Most 4-H clubs also have a Clover Kids Club available for youth in Kindergarten through third grade. This enables families to go to a 4-H and Clover Kids at the same time.
As a 4-H volunteer, club leaders complete the ISU Extension Child Protection and Safety Program. New 4-H clubs can also be started in communities with the help of volunteers. The Story County 4-H Foundation is offering to pay the membership fee for 4-H’ers of brand new 4-H clubs their first year, and half the second year. Annual membership fees include $20 per 4-H member and $5 per Clover Kid member. Financial assistance is also available.
4-H is family friendly. Family members learn together, work together, and have fun together. They may explore project interests like aerospace, computers, nutrition, photography, science, or even visual art. There are over 40 project areas available.
4-H’ers set goals to accomplish each year and develop skills they will use throughout their life. They often display their accomplishments by exhibiting at the Story County Youth Fair in July. 4-H’ers can also participate in county, state, and national 4-H events. There are additional recognition opportunities too, including scholarships.
