DARE 2 EXPLORE at Tri-County Junior 4-H Camp

Junior 4-H members who are completing 4th, 5th, or 6th grades are invited to Dare 2 Explore Boone, Greene, and Story Tri-County Junior 4-H Camp Wednesday, August 5, 10:00 a.m. to Friday, August 7, 8:30 p.m. at the Iowa 4-H Camping Center. Campers will have three fun filled days learning new skills, making new friends, reuniting with other campers, testing their skills during camp activities, and enjoying the great outdoors. Family members are invited to a BBQ and closing ceremony campfire on Friday evening.

4-H Makes a Positive Difference for Youth

Iowa 4-H research proves 4-H helps youth learn citizenship, leadership and communications skills. A national youth study from Tuft’s University shows young people who participate in 4-H achieve higher grades, are more likely to go to college, and are less likely to engage in risky behaviors like drinking and smoking than those who don’t participate in 4-H.

New 4-H Opportunity: Animal-Assisted Therapy

Are you interested in making a difference in your community? Do you think you and your dog would make good partners? Story County Extension is offering a new program to 4-H'ers and youth interested in joining this 4-H club. It is called Animal-Assisted Therapy and we would be introducing a new way to help people in nursing homes, hospitals, schools, and libraries with your dog at your side!

Community Conversations on Diversity

Ames Community Conversations on Diversity (CCDC), a volunteer coalition came together to address serious racial, class and ethnic tensions in Ames. Our goal was to bring people in our community together to talk, think, and work towards solving local problems. We invited Ames residents from all walks of life to participate in a series of facilitated community conversations held in October and November of 2008, concluded with a city-wide Action Forum.

The Story County Master Gardeners Association is offering scholarships to Graduating Seniors and College Students from Boone, Story and Marshall County high schools who are majoring in or plan to major in horticulture, floriculture, landscape horticulture, nursery & garden center mgt., greenhouse production, urban/community forestry, and turfgrass science & management.
4-H Foundation Grant Applications Available
