Timeline

It's time to prepare for college.  Where do you start?  When do you apply?  Your questions can be answered here.  An outline is provided below, explaining the appropriate time for applying to Iowa State University, beginning as early as your junior year and as late as the summer prior to your freshman year in college!

High School - Junior Year

High School - Senior Year

  • Submit your Application for Undergraduate Admission and Scholarships.  Apply online!
  • Review Iowa State University freshman scholarships.
  • Receive notification regarding you admission, this occurs approximately three weeks after all of your application materials have been received.
  • Before May 1, submit your admissions acceptance form and acceptance fee to confirm your enrollment in fall classes.
  • Submit your University housing contract.  The earlier you submit your contract, the more likely you will be to get into the housing you prefer.
  • Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), Iowa State University's code is 001869.  Submit the FAFSA regardless if you missed the March 1st priority deadline.
  • Respond to your summer orientation invitation.  Mailing of invitations begins in January for students who have accepted their admission offer.
  • By April 20, if interested, sign up for the 12 month payment plan.

Summer prior to Fall Classes

  • Attend orientation in the summer, meet with your academic advisor, and register for fall classes.
  • Receive both your registration confirmation and your billing statement in early August.
  • Move into University housing beginning the Wednesday before classes begin and attend Destination Iowa State.
