Summer Associate Educators hired - Robotics and Ag and Natural Resource camps


Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in the Northwest Iowa

hired two professionals to join 4-H youth programming as summer associate educators. They will conduct the various summer camps throughout the region.

Ag and Natural Resources camps – Ben Pullen (left) is an elementary school guidance counselor from Storm Lake who operates a small livestock and hay operation on his family farm just south and east of Spencer.  Ben has been an active Farm Bureau, FFA, and 4-H volunteer in Clay County. While his profession is education, his real love is agriculture. He is very familiar with extension programming and is excited to teach youth about agriculture. Pullen started with extension in April and be working intermittently until he is done with school responsibilities this week. He will be delivering ten weeks of Green Thumb Dirty Fingers, Dirt on My Plate, Plant Detectives and Insect Invasions, NATURE STEM, Explorations and Next Step Vet Science day camps.

STEM and Robotics  camps– Jason Katsma (right)  is a 2014 graduate of Northwestern College in mathematics and teaching endorsement in 6 -12 education. He accepted a high school math teaching position this fall at Boyden-Hull Community Scholl District. Jason is a native of Boise, Idaho and just completed student teaching at Denver School of Science and Technology. His past experiences have included: ELL Tutor in MOC-FV Schools and served a summer as a service coordinator for Youth Works INC  in Minneapolis, Minn. Katsma started with extension on May 19.He will be delivering ten weeks of Robotics and Advanced Robotics Camps along with Engineering for YOUth and Full STEM Ahead day camps.
