‘Juntos para una mejor educación’ (Together for a Better Education), is a series of workshops designed for Latino families with middle- to early high-school students. This free program is commonly referred to as Juntos and will be held on Tuesdays, starting Sept. 13 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Dordt College Campus Center in Sioux Center.

Over 550 youth took part in Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach’s 2016 summer camps, with many of the participants attending multiple camps for a total of 1,411 camp participants. Five counties - O’Brien, Sioux, Lyon, Osceola and Clay - all join together each summer to provide these educational summer camps throughout Northwest Iowa.

Farmers markets across Northwest Iowa are open for the season offering diverse selections of vegetables, fruit, flowers, herbs, eggs, honey, meat, crafts and other products. Recognizing the growing interest in fresh, locally-produced food, Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach county offices in Northwest Iowa launched Flavors of Northwest Iowa, a regional food project to build a network of support for growers and consumers. Join us this season on the Local Food Road Show to meet local growers and learn how we’re working together to supply the region with locally-grown food.

Each year Iowa State University recognizes the excellence of faculty and staff accomplishments through university awards. Cheryl Heronemus, regional extension education director for counties in northwest Iowa, was honored with the 2015 R.K. Bliss Award. The award, named for the director of extension from 1912 to 1946, recognizes outstanding achievement of an Iowa State University Extension and Outreach staff member for developing an overall or continuing extension education program.
