Knowing how to properly care for trees and how to identify harmful tree abnormalities is a great skill for all tree owners to have. However, not all tree abnormalities are harmful. Horticulturists with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach identify some tree abnormalities and explain what exactly they are.

Extension staff from Iowa State University, University of Minnesota and South Dakota State University will provide families with information on everything from food safety education and stretching food dollars as the cost of eggs and poultry increases to implementing strategies to manage a family’s finances and stress during tough times.

For 14 years, Teen Line has given Iowa teens a place to get their questions answered with reliable and research-based information through anonymous phone calls or online chats. Teen Line answers questions ranging from health and wellness to relationships to sexually transmitted diseases. This hotline is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Due to an increased interest in home food preservation, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach has developed the “Preserve the Taste of Summer” program. This program includes both online lessons and a hands-on workshop focusing on home food preservation with the most current USDA-approved food preservation recommendations.

Fairs, livestock auctions, swap meet and exotic sales will not include birds. The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship today announced an order to cancel all live bird exhibitions at county fairs, the Iowa State Fair and other gatherings of birds due to avian influenza.
