The Iowa State University Extension Master Gardener Program originated in Scott County.

In 1979, Scott County (Davenport) was the first county in the State of Iowa to implement a Master Gardener Program. Scott County currently has a force of about 130 volunteers. A monthly newsletter provides timely horticultural information and a schedule of local Master Gardening events and training.
