Over 400 Sac City residents have been actively involved in the Horizons Community Leadership Program to Reduce Poverty. This project, administered by ISU Extension and funded by the Northwest Area Foundation, has helped residents learn about poverty in their community, develop leadership skills, and work through a visioning process and implement action plans to make Sac City a more thriving community. A handy resource directory of all the services available to our communities has been put together and distributed throughout Sac County. This should make it much easier for those who need assistance to find it and learn about what’s available. Longer term, residents are working on a community resource center, mentoring, thrifty tips, and a “freecycle program.”
