Overview
Strengthen
your skills through recommended practices
Partnering with Parents consists of a series of training modules designed
to strengthen the knowledge and skills of parenting educators who work
with parents in one-to-one and group settings. Supervisors and administrators
of parenting education programs can also benefit from the Academy through
increased understanding about selecting and evaluating parenting education
programs, and the critical knowledge and skills that employees and volunteers
need to have when working with parents. The Academy uses principles of
family centered practices to facilitate learning and support with parents,
and is guided by the National Extension Parent Education Model (NEPEM)
and the National Extension Parenting Educators' Framework (NEPEF).
The Academy is delivered in several formats:
- Online series (11 modules delivered completely
online via Chat rooms, discussion boards, videostreams, eJournals, small
group and individual assignments, and readings. Chat sessions are held once every two weeks (one chat per module). Learners participate in each module over a two-week period.
- Face-to-face series (10 days of learning face
to face in Iowa with accompanying online activities)
- Summer 2 day workshop (Learners participate in
two different modules each summer)
