For Facilitators Only

Accessing WebCT:
Go to the ISU WebCT homepage at: http://webct.its.iastate.edu/

Click on the “WebCT GOLD Login” button. Login using either your ISU net-ID and password, or an exception id (begins w.) and associated password that has been provided to you.

The next screen you see will list the WebCT accounts to which you have access. This is called the “My WebCT GOLD” page. In the upper right corner is a “Check Browser” link. Click on the link and verify that your web browser is set up to work with WebCT. Internet Explorer users should also make the setting changes described at: www.hs.iastate.edu/online/tips/WebCT/IEsettings.php.

Enter a course by clicking on its title. If you have been granted designer or instructor access to the account, you will see a combination of tabs near the top of the screen labeled “Build”, “Teach” and “Student View.” To change course content, you must be in build mode. Grade assignments and modify the grade book in teach mode. Verify the appearance of the course in student view mode.

Any communications sent (i.e., mail or discussion postings) will be labeled with your name. You can read and send correspondence while in either build or teach mode.

For additional instructions on how to navigate through WebCT learning modules and how to use communication tools within WebCT, see the “Introduction to WebCT” included within the course.

It is important to look at the content modules so you are familiar with the pre- and post-assignments learners are expected to complete, and where they will be submitting them in WebCT.

Make sure to read the pre- and post- activities for the module(s) you are facilitating, so you know what the assignments are for the learners and where they learners are to submit them (e.g., discussion board, quiz function). If you think of additional resources that would be good to link to for the module(s) you are facilitating, please email them to Kim Greder, kgreder@iastate.edu

To respond to assignments submitted through quiz/survey function:

  • Click on the Teach tab.
  • Click on Assessments on the left hand side
  • Click on Assessment Manager in the LOWER left hand menu.
  • Click on the Not Graded tab then pull down the list of assessments so that it displays the one you wish to grade. Click the green “enter” arrow to the right of the pull-down menu.
  • Click on a student’s submission in the “Attempt” column to open it for review/grading.
  • Read the question responses, provide your feedback comments in the question comment box, and enter a score.
  • After grading all the questions that require manual grading, scroll to the bottom of the window and click the “Grade/Update Grade” button.
  • Late assignments: If the learners you are assigned have not submitted their assignments within a week of the due date, it would be helpful to send them an email letting them know that you are waiting to review their assignment and to please submit it soon.

To add information to the Calendar:

  • Click on the calendar link in the left hand column.
  • Click on the date that you want to add information to.
  • Click on “Add Entry”
  • Type in the desired information – by default, it will be displayed to all class members (i.e. Public).
  • Click “Save”
