3. Myths are often used in discussions about controversial public issues.

Myths, unverified beliefs about what exists, are often used to influence value judgments and, thus, make public policy decisions.
Beyond myths, other ideas circulated include:

  • Facts
  • Predictions- that may be based on fact or myth
  • Recommendation and Propaganda- another person's beliefs about what ought to be based on facts, values and predictions.
