Begun in 1975 the Iowa Municipal Professionals Institute and Academy (originally known as the Municipal Clerks Institute and Academy) provides educational credit toward certification by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) and/or the two certifications offered by the Iowa Municipal Finance Officers Association (IMFOA).  The Institute provides courses that help city clerks, finance officers and administrators achieve their certification while the Academy provides courses primarily to help maintain certifications.
