Iowa Great Places

Program: Iowa Great Places brings the resources of State government to Places to build capacity in and cultivate the authentic and unique qualities of neighborhoods, communities, regions, or districts.  Places are required to engage in an inclusive visioning process, resulting in a feasible and sustainable vision or strategic plan for the Places future.  The Place can then invite the State to partner with the Place throughout the plans implementation.  Great Places provides a State Project Manager to guide the Place through State government assistance, technical assistance from each relevant State agency, additional consideration on State grants, and possible direct grant funds.

Audience: Any Iowa neighborhood, community, district, county, or region willing to engage in a visioning process and submit a proposal to Iowa Great Places

Estimated Fee: $0 to apply; technical assistance is free; fees for services vary  

Location: The Iowa Great Places office is located in the State Historical Building in Des Moines, and is offered through the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs. Great Places designees are located in every region of Iowa.

Availability:

Delivery Schedule: Informal coaching through the visioning and application process is available all year.  Formal coaching for Places interested in applying in a particular year occurs throughout the summer of that year.  Proposals (or applications) are due in the fall of each year guidelines are found on our website.  Technical assistance, additional consideration on State grant applications, Great Places grants, and other services are provided to Great Places designees throughout a three-year period.
