Iowa Municipal Professionals Institute and Academy

Program: Begun in 1975 the Iowa Municipal Professionals Institute and Academy (originally known as the Municipal Clerks Institute and Academy) provides educational credit toward certification by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) and/or the two certifications offered by the Iowa Municipal Finance Officers Association (IMFOA).  The Institute provides courses that help city clerks, finance officers and administrators achieve their certification while the Academy provides courses primarily to help maintain certifications.

Audience: City Clerks, City Finance Officers, City Clerk/Administrators

Sponsor/Provider: Community and Economic Development Extension and Outreach, Iowa Municipal Finance Officers, Office of State and Local Government Programs

Estimated Fee: The Institute is arranged in a series of courses that range in length of time; each course costs $15 per contact hour.  120 hours are required for IIMC certification while 100 hours is required for either the Clerks Certification or Finance Certification offered by IMFOA.

The Academy is a flat fee of $185 for the 15 credit hour program.

Location: Ames, Iowa

Availability: Registration is handled through the Iowa League of Cities; the Institute registration normally opens in February with Academy registration opening in April.

Delivery Schedule: Both the Institute and Academy are held during the last full two weeks of July each year.

Basic and Flexible courses for IIMC and IMFOA certifications are offered during the Institute with specialized courses being offered Monday through Wednesday of week two.

The Academy is offered from Wednesday noon through Friday noon of the second week.
