Clover Kids - The Poweshiek County Clover Kids After-School Programs kicked off their program in October at Grinnell, Brooklyn, Montezuma and Victor. The topic was “Pumpkins”. This month the theme will be “Let’s Talk Turkey.” A guest speaker will be present to talk about “Farm to Fork” and discuss the concept of giving. If you know of anyone in grades K-3 that would be interested in the Clover Kids After-School Program that meets once a month, contact the Poweshiek County Extension Office.
Attention Clover Kids Parents: Next month we need your help in preparing for our "Make It and Take It" activity. Clover kids will learn how to make table runners. The table runner is something you can use in your home or your child can give it as a gift to grandma, aunt or friend of the family. It is an easy project, fun and one that needs some preparation on your part. Parents, send the following items with your child for the November session: 1/4 yard (9") of one type or what we call "focus fabric" and 1/2 yard (18") of another type of fabric we call "Back or Border Fabric." Extension will provide sewing machines, thread, scissors, and other materials needed for the project. Here is a picture of what your child will be making:
November Clover Kids Project Making the table runner helps youth develop eye/hand coordination, fine motor skills, and problem solving skills. In addition to the learning the youth will have a great sense of accomplishment and mastery when they present you or a relative with their handmade table runner. A wonderful and cherished gift that is priceless. **Take this letter to Three Sisters Shop in Montezuma for a discount. Fabric can also be purchased at Wal-Mart in Grinnell, True Value in Brooklyn or any place you choose.
