Don’t miss checking out these sculptures throughout Poweshiek County this summer!  Participating Poweshiek County 4-H members and their adult sponsor were given a bucket of “junk” to use in creating a sculpture or lawn art piece.

Pork producers’ desire for continuous improvement in production practices and exceeding customers’ demands for quality assurance measures spurred changes to the voluntary Pork Quality Assurance® Plus (PQA Plus®) program. Revisions to PQA Plus were announced during World Pork Expo 2013. A part of the pork industry’s We CareSM initiative, PQA Plus provides a framework for significant, relevant food safety standards and improved animal well-being.

Transport Quality Assurance ® (TQASM) is a program that helps swine transporters, producers and handlers understand how to handle, move and transport pigs and the potential impacts of those actions on pig well-being and/or pork quality. Anyone who handles or transports pigs, or sets protocols for handling pigs, is a potential influencer of animal well-being and pork quality.  Individuals may be certified through the TQA Program, a handler is an individual who receives TQA certification to move, handle and transport pigs.
