Iowa farmers who perform custom work, hire work done, or some of both have the 2013 Iowa Farm Custom Rate Survey schedule as a guide in determining custom rates.

This information is based on a survey of 249 Iowa farmers, custom operators, and farm managers. For each operation, the average rate from the survey and the range are shown.

Consider Frostseeding Pastures in February and Early March

Dry conditions during much of 2012 and overgrazing late into the fall have damaged many Iowa

pastures. Pastures with bare areas and thin sod cover will be less productive and more susceptible

to weed encroachment. Most producers want to maintain their existing pastures, but might like

to improve them by doing some form of partial reseeding. Frostseeding is one method that

should be considered.

Cool Stored Grain This Weekend

So far this harvest, a lot of corn and soybeans have gone into storage at temperatures in the 70s and some 80s. With grain this warm, moisture migration and spoilage can occur quickly, even with fairly dry grain.
