DES MOINES – A new detection of an invasive pest has been positively identified after a larva sample was collected from a city-owned tree in Grinnell on June 16, 2015. This brings the total of confirmed infested counties to 25 since emerald ash borer was first discovered in Iowa in 2010. This small, metallic-green beetle native to Asia kills ash tree species.

Poweshiek Leadership Program graduated its 2012-2013 participants May 9th at the English Valley Bed and Breakfast in Montezuma.  This year’s class consisted of twenty people that live or work in Poweshiek County.  Each participant is also sponsored by a local business or organization.

Anyone who is involved with the rental market for Iowa farmland knows that rental rates have been pushed significantly higher by the favorable corn and soybean prices that farmers have enjoyed since 2010. This trend continued in 2012.
